East Pittsburgh Borough
East Pittsburgh is a one half square mile area with one side bordering a small flowing stream call Turtle Creek, in Allegheny County. This creek flows into the Monongahela River and then onward to the Pittsburgh Point, into the three rivers. Located about 11 miles southeast of the confluence of the Monongahela and the Allegheny rivers. Population of around 1800 people in 2010.
East Pittsburgh was incorporated as a borough in the year 1895, April 16. It boast having the worlds’ first radio station, as we know it today as KDKA- AM! First transmission was made from East Pittsburgh on November 2, 1920.
In 1928 an early demonstration of a new medium was conducted at the Westinghouse laboratories in East Pittsburgh. Eventually the new medium became known as television!!
